I entered college undecided on my major. After taking a consumer behavior marketing course in my freshman year, I was hooked on marketing. From day one, I have always found marketing incredibly interesting, rewarding, fun, and highly strategic. And it’s also a great match for my creative nature, outgoing personality, and love of challenges. I will always love staying current with the world of marketing.
After graduating, I worked at large NYC advertising agencies then worked in and led marketing departments for start-up, small, medium, and large, global companies. I have partnered with many recruitment agencies to hopefully find highly qualified, passionate marketing talent for companies I worked for. Rarely was my experience a good one for so many reasons; including being forwarded average, at best, candidates (partly because the recruiter had no or a minimal number of years in the marketing trenches, partly because of how they identified candidates). Also, I felt like I was working with out-of-touch, indifferent, money- and placement-driven, overwhelmed ‘recruiting machines’…..instead of an empathetic, experienced human being who took the time to truly understand or genuinely care about my needs and the company I worked for – not because they had to but because they genuinely wanted to.
One the other side of the fence, while looking to make career moves over the years, I have also worked with several dozen apathetic staffing agencies and recruiters with little, if any, experience in the marketing trenches. I could count on one hand how many recruiters I spoke to that had any real-world marketing experience or even an ounce of passion for, or deep knowledge of, marketing. The sterile conversations I had were shallow, robotic, self-serving, and came across as scripted. Needless to say, my overall job search experiences with recruiters were very poor and left so much to be desired on so many levels.
I started Periphery Staffing Solutions to revolutionize an industry that is stale; broken; incredibly self-serving; and dominated by large, money-driven ‘recruiting machines’ who seem to only care about making as many placements as possible. The industry has been in desperate need of a major overhaul, on every level, for many years. We are on a determined and purposeful mission to drastically up-the-game on the client and candidate experience and to provide clients with better marketing and IT candidates through our human-based identification of candidates model and superior, far more knowledgeable candidate interviews.
